COLOR MY WORLD: PURPLE + NAVY

Love the art!

I think with fall right around the corner, I’m falling a little more in love with those deeper, richer hues. Purple has always been a favorite color of mine, ever since I was a little girl. I remember at about 6 years old, I had a favorite pair of plum-colored corduroy overalls that I would absolutely insist on wearing. And at about 8 years old, I would wear a lavender skirt that my grandmother made me just about every other day – only because my mom wouldn’t let me wear it every day.

At about 10, I had the chance to decorate my own bedroom, and guess what? It looked a bit like Barney had exploded in it, and I was in heaven! I think my parents may still have the purple and pink comforter I picked out.

As I got older, my love for purple didn’t fade away, but it was used less and less in my life. I’d occasionally wear it in the form of bright, suede pumps, or a light, fall jacket, but I would never decorate my home with it. It felt a bit too girly and gaudy and bold.

Oh my, how times have changed! Purple is indeed girly and bold, but pair it with the added boldness of navy and it becomes much more malleable and masculine and glamorous in all the right ways. Whether you plan on making a bolder statement, in the forms of fuchsia or plum…

Or aiming for a softer, more plush ambiance with a dusting of lavender or mauve…

…purple will forever be the royalty of the color wheel.

I think Alice Walker said it best, I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don’t notice it.

Indeed, no matter the shade, purple is a head turner!

Have a great weekend everyone!
